Confessions of a Speed Reader

There was an article recently on Wall Street Journal on the resurgence of Speed Reading. When we were growing up, it was all the rage. While some swear by it, others have very negative things to say about reading with low propensity to absorb and retain content.
Speed reading relies on quickly scanning the material, usually using a pen and through a zig-zag pattern clustering words to absorb meaning quickly. The technique encourages repeat reading to additionally increase material comprehension.
Miguel, Marky, Margarita and Max's mom was a speed reading tutor. In College, I am reminded of a conversation I had with her on the subject. As a tutor, she also had her apprehensions but different people have different reading objectives.
Others are really time-challenged so Speed Reading makes a real difference in their lives.
Personally, I think speed reading is great but must be used in moderation.
Life's already moves at warp speed and it's better sometimes as my mother says to "smell the flowers".
There are a few folks like my sisters who often have the tendency to read novels in speedreading mode when the literature goes slow.
I think it's good to know how to master the technique if you're in the corporate espionage business or work for a literary journal where you have to sift through thousands of manuscripts to find a gem.
If you're into synthesis big time, speed reading can save a lot of time.
L1, L2, L3... ask your mom about Speed Reading. It would be good to know more about this. It's important to enjoy reading in all shapes, ways and forms.
Hope you can let me know what you think....

I think speed reading is pretty good. Helps me a lot.
zexiv also took this up when he was younger and now thinks the whole thing was a waste of time. after all, reading is supposed to be an enjoyable experience and a good author can make you forget yourself and transplant you to faraway magical places. can you imagine speed reading a very good book? it would be like rushing through a really delicious chocolate truffle cake. sure, you would have finished your slice faster than the rest and would also correctly conclude that it was indeed a chocolate truffle cake but you would have taken all the pleasure out of it.
